What is the Théa Trophy Contest?

The Théa Trophy Contest is an annual international clinical case contest in ophthalmology launched in 2012 by Laboratoires Théa and supported by Théa Academy. This unique competition invites residents and fellows from Europe and outside Europe to present clinical cases focused on ocular pathologies. Its goal is to promote exchange of clinical experiences and stimulate discussion within the young community, while also encouraging global collaboration among the next generation of eye care professionals. Through the contest, Théa fosters both scientific excellence and cross-border networking opportunities, building a strong community of future ophthalmic leaders.

Designed specifically for residents and fellows, the Théa Trophy Contest is more than a competition—it’s a steppingstone toward international recognition. Winners’ prizes: career growth and international recognition

Each year, the Théa Trophy winners gain recognition at leading international scientific events. Their success stories highlight the contest’s role in promoting young talents and elevating their professional profiles. The global visibility offered by the contest inspires many emerging ophthalmologists to aim higher and innovate in their field.

First prize for the 3 international winners:
The three international winners will have the unique opportunity to present their clinical case during Théa’s symposium at the ARVO congress in the United States in May. All related costs (registration, travel, and accommodation) will be fully covered by Laboratoires Théa*. As TROPHY ambassadors, they will also be invited to attend the EVER congress in the same year, as well as the following year’s ARVO meeting.

Second prize for the top national case authors:
The authors of the top-ranked clinical cases from each participating country will receive an invitation to attend the EVER congress, offering a unique opportunity to connect with fellow winners from around the world.

* Laboratoires Théa shall comply with all local applicable law and regulation regarding the declaration to a medical council or any competent entity where the healthcare professional is registered and with the reporting and declaration to a public audience or a competent authority of interests it may have with healthcare professionals.

Who can participate in the Théa Trophy Contest?

The contest is open to all ophthalmology residents or fellows from the following countries.

Europe: Austria, Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

North America: Canada.

Latin America: Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Peru.

North Africa: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia.

Asia: Cyprus, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia.

How do I submit a clinical case?

The presentation should be written in English in Word format. Illustration of the case by pictures and imaging is recommended. A maximum of 10 pages is allowed.

The clinical case should be divided into the following sections (in this order):

• Title page: with the title of the case without identification of the author.

• Introduction: The introduction section should explain the background of the case, including the disorder, usual presentation and progression and an explanation of the presentation if it is a new disease.

• Case presentation with illustrations and figures: The case presentation should include relevant demographic information (without identifying the patient), medical history, symptoms and signs, tests performed, and any treatment or intervention. Clinical photographs may be included if they are anonymous or
accompanied by written consent.

• Discussion: This is for additional comments that provide any additional relevant information not included in the case presentation, and that put the case in context or that explain specific treatment decisions.

• Conclusion: A brief conclusion of what can be learnt from the case report and what the clinical impact will be. Information on how it will significantly advance knowledge of a particular disease etiology or drug mechanism can be included.
